In this ceremony, people gather around Bolony and everybody drops an object in it. They also write different poems on the paper and drops in the Bolony. Then, a child is chosen to pick a piece of paper and one object from inside it.
It is usually considered that the paper belongs to the owner of that picked object. Chaharshanbe soori festival includes making fire and jumping over it. But different cities of Iran have different customs for Chaharshanbe soori and every geographical part has different customs for this old celebration. In Shiraz, for example, people usually go to the holy shrine of Shahcheragh and pass under its orb.
In Tabriz, it was custom that people went on the roof and poured water on other people. This is an ancient custom that dates back to the Sasanian era. Ancient people also poured water on each other in the celebrations like Noruz for happiness and fortune.
Also, it was custom in Zanjan to put money in the throwing jar from the roof to bring blessings in the house. Iranian people celebrate Chaharshanbe soori with some different customs which each of them has different reasons. Iran having different people and rich civilization is an attractive and interesting country regarding traditional customs.
Noruz Celebration and Chaharshanbe soori festival that is a prelude to it, are still held among Iranian people. These celebrations and rituals play very important roles in Iranian culture. Getting familiar with these celebrations help to retain them in the future.

So, the ones making wishes, should cook Pottage Ribbon called Ashe Reshteh in Farsi by themselves or assistance of friends and family members and serve it for guests and neighbors.
It is cooked mainly by boiled beans and legumes, Spinach and some other vegetables, fried garlic and spearmint and noodles. The ancient Iranians celebrated the last 10 days of the year in their annual obligation feast of all souls, Hamaspathmaedaya Farvardigan or popularly Forodigan. They believed Farahvahar the messenger of Ahuramazda in Zoroastrian belief , the guardian angles for humans and also the spirits of dead would come back for reunion. These spirits were entertained as honored guests in their old homes, and were bidden a formal ritual farewell at the dawn of the New Year.
The ten-day festival also coincided with festivals celebrating the creation of fire and humans. During ancient times, Iranian used to light fire on the roof by burning left belongings of the dead family members attracting and persuading their soul to come back and stay with them for a night.
The reason for making fire was to invite soul of dead people in order to keep satanic soul or Ahriman far from the family gathering which is considered as a private community. Due to existence of this belief, houses were cleaned and dust was removed from houses of Iranians just in case make the invited soul happy and prove that the departed members are still enjoying their life in the other world and making people sure that there is no need to be worried about because all the sadness have been put aside by cleaning the house.
Before Nowruz, Iranians clean their houses fully and make sure that everything is purified and renewed, as they want to start the New Year healthy and fresh.
Charshanbeh Soori is somehow one of the steps of cleansing and purifying, but it also plays a major role in how people enter the New Year mentally and emotionally. When families, friends and neighbors, people who live together in general gather together right before Nowruz and the beginning of a new year and a new chapter in their lives, when they chat and spend quality time together when they break the old jugs and relive the good memories, there is a chance to feel you are a part of a greater loving and caring whole, that you belong to a larger group of people who share your beliefs, your happy and sad moments.
This would generally make people feel better about themselves and their life, and enable them to start a brighter year, to have a new chapter unfolding for you full of love and companionship. After all, this is Iran, the land of poetry, the land of tales, the land of love and celebration.
